Matthew James Limited was formed in 2021 by two brothers Matthew Quayle & James Quayle who aim to bring the construction industry to a new level across the Isle Of Man through efficiency, organisation and planning. We want to be part of a business with like minded, trustworthy people, who have strong work ethic and passion for excellence.
The creation of a positive Health & Safety culture, project focused and collaborative attitude on all projects is at the forefront of our team’s thinking. Creating a positive working environment and providing excellent examples of site presentation within the workplace is hugely important. We want to draw attention to young people wanting to work within the construction industry and provide a good example of professionalism. Achieving this will cement our reputation, encourage more professionals wanting to work within the construction industry and create long-term relationships with our customers based on trust and reliability.

Matthew Quayle
BSc (Hons) MCIOB
Director & Chartered Construction Manager – Building Surveyor
Matthew is an experienced CIOB Chartered Construction Manager with a BSc (Hons) degree in Building Surveying from Sheffield Hallam University.
Matthew has over 13 years experience involved in the Construction Industry, having gained experience working as a Quality Control Surveyor and Site Manager in Scotland, working on large Residential Housing Developments, high specification Commercial Properties ranging from office pavilions to adaptable business units and exclusive Build-to Rent Apartment Blocks.
In 2016, Matthew returned to the Isle of Man and joined the Isle of Man Government as a Building Control Officer where he oversaw the northern area of the island assessing Building Regulation Applications along with daily on-site inspections, signing off construction works ensuring they met the regulatory standards of safety, sustainability, accessibility and design.
Before starting up Matthew James Ltd with his younger brother James Quayle in 2021, Matthew worked for Haven Homes as their Operations Manager working closely with the Board overseeing multiple construction projects participating in project planning, reviewing all company procedures, determining budgets, quality management, programming, staffing, ensuring regulatory compliance in all areas, directing daily operations of each project and aided strategic planning for company growth as the company works towards larger scale Development projects.
When not working, Matthew is very much a family man and spends his time with his partner Michaela and his dog Blaze. He enjoys motorbikes and trips away.
James Quayle

Construction Director
James is an experienced Construction Manager with a BSc (Hons) degree in Construction Management from Nottingham Trent University.
James has over 8 years experience in the construction industry, having gained experience working as a Site Manager in London, Birmingham and Manchester. James has worked on high end large residential housing developments such as high rise apartments in central London, detached new build developments and commercial railway fit out projects.
In 2019, James returned to the Isle of Man and joined Haven Homes as a Site Manager before starting up Matthew James Ltd with his older brother Matthew Quayle in 2021. In James’ last role before working full time for Matthew James Ltd, James focused on setting up the communication database between different departments of Haven, this involved preparing programmes, material schedules, site procedures, health and safety packs and managing daily on site duties.
When not working, James is very much an outdoors character spending his time with his partner Ruby and his dogs Red & Daphne the Irish Red Setters. He enjoys participating in the islands local enduro and motocross events and playing for his local rugby club Southern Nomads.

Communication is key to delivering our projects on time and budget. We are passionate in being transparent with our open-book approach to allow us to develop exciting projects with dedicated teamwork. Our aim is to understand customer objectives from design stage right through to completion. This allows us to prioritise what our customers want most out of their project, leaving little to no compromises on final specification.
Refurbishment & remodelling
We have widespread experience from residential home remodels, railway station, offices, commercial units, schools & care homes. Our project management skills vary with the same principle of high-quality finish and efficient.
Building surveying & consultancy
We are qualified BSc (Hons) Building surveyors. We are fully competent and insured to undertake detailed building defects reports along with arranging any repairs all in house with our professional team. We offer cost effective aerial drone surveys allowing a quick solution compared to traditional methods of scaffolding, platforms or hiring a cherry picker. No one leaves the ground unnecessarily thanks to our joint venture with 3 legs photography to assist us undertaking building inspections. All clients have access to their survey reports with video imagery.
Maintenance
With the combination of in house professionally qualified building surveyors & construction team, we have delivered many reactive maintenance services from diagnosis to repair in the same day across all market sectors being residential or commercial.
